How Much Does It Cost to Feed a Hippopotmus?

(A child may enter as many times as he/she wishes, but win only 1 time during the year.

Hillary is growing, so she eats a lot of food!  Here is what Hillary the Hippo eats for one day.

Hippo Breakfast:
1/2 Bale of Alfalfa Hay, 2 scoops of grain, 1 scoop of beet pulp, 24 carrots, 2 doses of supplements

Hippo Lunch:
1/2 Bale of Grass Hay, 2 scoops of grain, 2 scoops of beet pulp, 30 carrots, 10 heads of Kale, 2 doses of supplements

Hippo Dinner:
1/2 Bale of Alfalfa Hay, 2 scoops of grain, 2 scoops of beet pulp, 30 carrots, 10 heads of Kale, 2 doses of supplements

 

Hillary's Food:

1 - 30 lb. Bale of Grass Hay = $2.50
1 - 40 lb. Bale of Alfalfa Hay = $3.00
1 scoop of Grain (10 lb.) = $1.00
5 apples (4 lb.) = $1.25
5 heads of kale (it's like lettuce...each weighs 2 lb) = $1.25
1 scoop of beet pulp weighs 5 lb. = $2.50
6 carrots (1 lb) = .75
1 dose of supplements (vitamins & minerals - 1 lb) = $3.00
